Voltra Pedal Manual
The LiftLayered Voltra Pedal loads and unloads your VOLTRA I with your foot, so your hands stay on the handles. Tap to load or unload, hold to load instantly. It runs on a built-in rechargeable battery and connects to your trainer over Bluetooth.
What you need
- A Beyond Power VOLTRA I (two, if you want twin mode)
- A USB-C cable and a standard 5V USB charger, for charging the pedal
First-time setup
Setup takes about a minute, and you only do it once per trainer.
- Charge the pedal over USB-C (see Power and charging below).
- Turn on your VOLTRA, and close the VOLTRA phone app if it is open. Only one controller can connect at a time.
- Flip the pedal's power switch on. The light flashes white once, then blinks blue while it searches for your trainer.
- The first time, the VOLTRA shows a prompt asking to allow “Voltra Knob” to connect. That name is normal. Accept it on the trainer's screen.
- When the light turns steady dim green, the pedal is ready.
The pedal remembers your trainer after this first connection and reconnects by itself every time you switch it on. Nothing ever loads automatically at power-on or when it reconnects.
Using the pedal
The pedal has two main gestures, tap and hold, plus two weight gestures described below. Presses are ignored until the light is steady green or purple, so a stray press while it is still connecting does nothing.
- Tap (a quick press and release): loads the VOLTRA at the weight currently set on the trainer. If it is already loaded, a tap unloads it. Unloading is always instant.
- Hold (keep your foot down for about 0.6 seconds): loads instantly. The VOLTRA's own wait-for-pull and 3-2-1 countdown are skipped and the weight engages right away.
While the pedal is idle (not loaded), you can also change the weight in 5 lb steps:
- Double-tap (two quick taps): adds 5 lb.
- Triple-tap (three quick taps): subtracts 5 lb.
Because of this, a single tap while idle waits about a third of a second to see whether a second tap follows, and then loads. Unloading is never delayed. Weight steps are ignored while loaded, so change the weight on the VOLTRA during a set.
For bigger weight changes, set the weight on the VOLTRA or in the app, as usual.
Status light guide
The light on the pedal tells you what it is doing. Solid red and fast red blinking are different: solid means loaded, fast blinking means a connection problem.
| Light | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| One white flash at power-on | The pedal has started | Nothing |
| Blue, slow blink | Searching for or connecting to your VOLTRA | Make sure the VOLTRA is on and nearby, and wait a few seconds |
| Red, fast blink | The VOLTRA seems to be connected to another controller, usually the phone app | Close the app on your phone, then wait; the pedal keeps retrying |
| Dim green, steady | Connected and ready | Tap to load |
| Purple, steady | Connected to two VOLTRAs (twin mode) and ready | Tap to load both |
| Amber, blinking | A hold was received and the load is starting | Wait a moment |
| Red, steady | Loaded: the weight is engaged | Tap to unload |
| Cyan, dim and steady (only while holding at power-on) | You are holding the pedal during power-on | Keep holding to forget the paired VOLTRA, or release to start normally |
| Cyan, three flashes | The paired VOLTRA was forgotten | Release the pedal; it will pair again |
Weight-change flashes: after a double-tap or triple-tap, the light gives a brief cyan flash over its normal color. One flash means the weight went up 5 lb, two flashes means it went down 5 lb, and three flashes means it is already at the limit (5 lb minimum, 200 lb maximum).
Pairing and re-pairing
The first time you turn it on, the pedal listens for a couple of seconds and pairs with the VOLTRA that has the strongest signal, which is normally the nearest one. It then remembers that trainer and, from then on, connects only to it and ignores any other VOLTRA.
To make the pedal forget its trainer and pair again, for example if you moved it to a different VOLTRA or it picked the wrong one:
- Turn the pedal off.
- Press and hold the pedal with your foot, then flip the power switch on while still holding.
- Keep holding for about 3 seconds, until the light flashes cyan three times, then let go.
- The light blinks blue while it pairs with the strongest VOLTRA nearby.
If several VOLTRAs are in range, place the pedal next to the one you want, or switch the others off, before you re-pair.
Twin mode (experimental)
If you own two VOLTRAs, the pedal can load and unload both at once. This feature is experimental.
- Pair the pedal with your first VOLTRA as usual.
- Turn on the second VOLTRA and leave it on its default home screen. Do not open the Weightlifting menu on it.
- The pedal finds the second trainer on its own and links them. The light turns steady purple.
With the light purple, a tap loads both trainers and a tap unloads both. If the light stays green, the second VOLTRA has not linked yet. The pedal keeps working with the first one and checks again about once a minute.
Power and charging
The power switch on the pedal turns it on and off. Switch it off when you are not training so the battery lasts.
To charge, plug a USB-C cable into the pedal and a standard 5V USB charger. The battery charges only while the power switch is on. The small red light on the board next to the USB-C port blinks while charging and goes off when the battery is full. The pedal works normally while it charges.
The pedal has no battery gauge. If it stops responding or will not connect, charge it. Keep it away from heat, such as a hot car, and do not crush or puncture it, because it contains a lithium battery.
Troubleshooting and notes
- Stuck on slow blue blinking: the VOLTRA is off, asleep or out of range, or another device already has it. Wake the VOLTRA, close the phone app, and stay within a few meters.
- Fast red blinking: the VOLTRA seems to be connected to something else, usually the phone app. Close the app and wait; the pedal retries on its own.
- Pedal paired to the wrong VOLTRA: follow the re-pairing steps above.
- Stepping on the pedal does nothing: the light must be steady green or purple. Presses are ignored while it is still connecting.
- Unresponsive or will not connect: charge the pedal, with the power switch on, then try again.
